Enrolment Procedures

The Principal, Mrs. Kathryn Hira would be thrilled to talk to you about enrolling your child at St Mary's Avondale. She is more than happy to show you around and discuss any questions that you may have about the school. Prior to visiting, please phone the school (09) 828 5599 and arrange an appointment for you and your child.

As St Mary's Avondale there is a legal requirement that a preference of enrolment form is completed. This is done by simply contacting the school's Parish Priest who will meet and help you to complete this task.

 

Enrolment Checklist

Make sure you have the following documents: 

  • Enrolment form.
  • Preference card.
  • Digital Technology Declaration.
  • Are you able to help?
  • Attendance dues agreement.
  • HV consent form.
  • Proof of date of Birth (NZ birth certificate or NZ passport) if foreign passport, photocopy the front page and the page with evidence with immigration status.

Readiness for School

It would be helpful if your child could master some or all of these skills before starting school.

  • Can follow simple instructions.
  • Can recognize/write his/her own name in lower case letters.
  • Can manage scissors and crayons.
  • Can hold a pencil correctly.
  • Has some alphabet knowledge and experience with books.
  • Can initiate some conversation e.g. even ‘good morning’.
  • Can handle morning tea and lunch items independently.
  • Can pack and unpack his/her bags.
  • Can express him/herself clearly.
  • Can sit down for a short time and listen.
  • Is responsible for own personal items.
  • Can manage the toilet unassisted.
  • Has basic manners – please/thank you etc.
  • Can manage own clothes and shoes.
